1954 - A new Honeytastic cereal is born

Believe it or not but Sugar Puffs actually existed a long time before I did. Since the 1930's, there has been a breakfast cereal called Puffed Wheat. Whilst it certainly was very healthy, packed with wholegrain, it didn't have that extra yummyness that kids need. Then in 1954 a bright spark at our Southall Factory (or Honey Monster HQ as I call it) came up with the idea of covering these puffed grains of wheat with a delicious coating of honey. That was the day my favourite food was invented!

Now they had to let people know what a brilliant discovery they had made. That year they toured the whole country with the Sugar Puffs Train. It visited fairs, fetes and carnivals. Kids could get a ride on the train and were given a free sample of Sugar Puffs so they could taste the honey goodness.

In the sixties the popularity of Sugar Puffs grew even more thanks to my good friend and predecessor, "Jeremy the Bear". He starred in adverts and featured on the front of the packs for many years.

1976 - The most famous monster in the land

In 1976 I was asked to further spread the word about Sugar Puffs. As I'm such a big fan, I was only too happy to help (especially as they gave me lots of free boxes!). In my very first advert I starred alongside Henry McGee. He was a nice man although it was very silly pretending he was my Mummy. I'd happily shout 'Tell them about the honey, Mummy' even though he looked nothing like her.

Happily, the kids of Britain took a shine to me and went 'Monster Mad for the Honey'. Sugar Puffs started flying off the shelves and became one of the most popular breakfast cereals. Over the years I became more and more famous. I got to do all sorts of fun things like pretend to be a spy and play football for Kevin Keegan (I've aged a lot better than he has, sorry Kevin). Once, in 1982, I even got to meet Prince Charles when he came to visit Honey Monster HQ for a tour of the factory.

2006 - The future's bright, the future's yellow

In 2006 Sugar Puffs were acquired by the nice men at Big Bear. I was very happy as I felt a bit unloved by my previous owners. Now I'm at the centre of things again and Big Bear even decided to call the company Honey Monster Foods.

They've put me back on the telly and they've brought out some great new products. Honey Waffles and Honey Meltz are lovely and are just what I need to 'Feed the Fun'.

Lots of Love,
HM
